A History of Hermle - German Quality Clocks

Hermle Clocks

The story of Hermle began in 1922 when Franz Hermle started the company Franz Hermle & Sohn in Gosheim. In 1930 it was already one of the most modern clock production sites in the region.  Alongside the production and distribution of many different types of large clocks, there was a focus on the production of mechanical mechanisms which were used by other clock manufacturers.

High accuracy and the perfect precision of every single component have always been distinctive features of Hermle clocks and mechanical clockworks. In the 1970s this led to the addition of an additional business field: CNC longitudinally turned parts and gearing components. The latter were no longer produced solely for the company's own requirements but for other sectors as well, including the automotive industry, the mechanical engineering sector and the electrical engineering industry. Furthermore in Reichenbach, not far from Gosheim, production of quartz movements began.

In 1977 Hermle Uhrenmanufaktur built a second factory in Amherst, Virginia, USA and in the following year, Rolf Hermle took over as CEO, marking the third generation of the founding family. He is currently responsible for all three divisions of the company; Hermle Uhrenmanufaktur, Hermle Mechanische Uhrwerke and Hermle Drehteile.

And time doesn't stand still at Hermle: each year, in its clocks catalogue, the Uhrenmanufaktur presents several new models in addition to its timeless masterpieces. In the best of tradition, the range extends from floor clocks and wall clocks to table clocks, ship's clocks and regulators.  You can see a video about Hermle by clicking on this link
